September 2, 1921: "H.S. Perry has the dirt flying in building a good new trail up Volunteer Mountain. Mr. Perry was the successful bidder for the building of the trail. Travel to and from the Lookout Tower, on top of the mountain, will be greatly facilitated when the trail is completed." (Williams News)
September 9, 1921: "Forest Supervisor Scott and Rangers Rice and Bascom were out to Volunteer Mountain last Wednesday to look over the new trail that H.S. Perry is building to the lookout tower on top." (Williams News)
November 11, 1921: "H.S. Perry has almost completed building a trail up Volunteer Mountain. The building of the trail makes travel much easier and quicker, to and from the lookout tower on top of the mountain. The trail on which Mr. Perry has done splendid work is being built by the Forest Service to enable the lookout who is stationed on the mountain during the summer months prior to the summer rains, to get to any fires that may be started, more quickly."
