June 29, 1914: "The Midland Hill trail east of Buena Vista will make the eighth trail to be completed. From the summit of Midland hill there is afforded a sweeping view of the Arkansas watershed from Granite south to Salida. Owing to this fact, Midland Hill will be used as a fire lookout station, which the new trail will be the means of reaching." (Carbonate Chronicle - Leadville)
