FORT NIOBRARA NWR
(headquarters)
Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge
1936: A 125 foot tower was constructed and painted at the Headquarters.
December 1936: "The 125 ft lookout tower at Headquarters has been painted orange and white, the platform and top was painted orange down for twenty feet, and then a piece white for ten ft., and alternating with orange and white on down. However, the tower is very spindly and weaves whenever one takes a step on the platform, and it is certainly no place for anyone who does not feel at ease in climbing high."
