BOSQUE PEAK
New Mexico - Torrance County - Cibola National Forest
1911: A lookout site was established.
October 2, 1911: "After spending three weeks camping on the Bosque Peak, a forest service lookout station in the heights of the Manzanos, Arthur Everitt and a party of friends returned to the city Saturday night. This peak is connected by telephone with the ranger stations, and in the event of a fire being found, a means of rapid and accurate communication is thus assured." (The Evening Herald)
July 19, 1912: "Owing largely to the fact that moisture has been abundant in the mountains, the damage by fire this season in the Manzano and Sandia ranges in the Manzano national forest has been practically nil and the season's record in this respect promises to be a good one. Supervisor Calkins says that the lookout station of the Rea ranch on the top of the Bosque peak in the Manzanos, which overlooks practically the whole forest save the extreme northern and southern ends has proved valuable in detecting incipient fires and making possible their extinction before any damage is done. The lookout in the Gallinas mountains to the south has also given valuable assistance in watching the southern end of the Manzanos range. It will be remembered that last year for the first time the lookout station on the Bosque was established, with a telephone line to Tajique ranger station." (Albuquerque Evening Herald)
