November 21, 1919: "A few miles east of the pass the Gilsonite ranger station is passed, from which a bridle path trail leads to Park View mountains, on the summit of which a fire lookout station is maintained by the forest service.
An officer is stationed on this peak throughout dangerous dry periods of the summer to watch for fire in the surrounding forests. The view from this peak, isolated as it is from the main range, is one of the finest in western Colorado." (Routt County Sentinel)
