June 6, 1913: "Supervisor Johnston returned at once to Silver City, arriving here Sunday night after having driven by team the entire distance from Bear Wallows lookout via Alma and Mogollon.
The discovery of the fire is a credit to the efficiency of the fire lookout service, for it was located in a place where it would ordinarily have burned for a couple weeks before being discovered, by which time it would haver covered such a n extended area that nothing could have been done to fight it and it would have had to burn itself out." 1923: A 35-foot tall Aermotor LX-24 steel tower with a 7x7 wood cab was erected. Over the years many changes have been made, including interior stairs in place of the standard ladder, windows and siding also have been up-graded. (Source: "Lookouts of the Southwestern Region," USFS)
