1917: A small tower was constructed by the two firemen stationed on the peak.
1923: A lookout cab was constructed on the old tower.
1930: A steel tower and a frame cabin was constructed for lookout quarters. The materials for the building were packed a distance of 25 miles by way of the trail up Big Turkey Creek.

OF GILA HOT SPRINGS ON A PROMINENT TOP IN DIABLO RANGE LOCALLY KNOWN AS GRANITE PEAK. STATION IS 50.7 FT. NW. OF CENTER OF USFS STEEL LOOKOUT TOWER AND IS 31.5 FT. LOWER THAN FLOOR OF LOOKOUT CABIN AND 38.0 FT. LOWER THAN THE EAVES OF LOOKOUT CABIN ROOF.
STATION WAS REACHED BY HELICOPTER AND A HELIPORT IS PROVIDED ON RIDGE E. OF LOOKOUT TOWER.
