LOOKOUT PEAK
Lawrence County - National Forest - 6N-2E-11
September 3, 1912: "Forest Supervisor R.P. Imes has contracted with August Doll to construct a thirty foot tower on Lookout Peak. It is intended to at once construct five miles of telephone line from Alkali Springs to Lookout Peak and then employ another fire lookout. With the tower on this peak the elevation will be the same as Harney peak and it will be possible from this point to locate any fire which may originate in the Limestone district.
By triangulation from Harney peak and Lookout Peak it will also be possible to locate definitely any fire which may start in the eastern portion of the forest. Owing to the large amount of forage which exists throughout the woods this season there will be great danger of having serious forest fires after the first heavy frost. It is therefore well that the forest officers are making ready to handle the situation, and it will also be important that each settler, camper and hunter be extremely careful to see that no fires get started, for it a fire gets a good start this year, there is no telling the danger it may do.---Custer Chronicle" (The Daily Deadwood Pioneer-Times)
