HUNTER'S MESA
Johnson County - Bighorn National Forest
July 4, 1939: "A trip was made to the Hunter Mesa LO location, the afternoon of July 4th. This fire was discovered upon arrival at the Mesa. Five men were picked up near the Hunter R.S. And the balance were on the fire or near it and on their way to it, when I reached the fire.
The fire was under the edge of a ridge and was out of the sweep of the wind, otherwise it would have showed sooner. The Sheep Mountain man could not have seen it until it reached several acres. U.J. Post" (Individual Fire Report ("A" Fires) July 5, 1939)
