July 22, 1939: "Two other lookouts are planned. One tower will be placed on Parker peak, probably next year. This will cover the area in the Fall River addition to the Harney forest. The peak is 4,848 feet high and two and a half miles south of Minnekahta." (Rapid City Journal)
November 21, 1940: "Twelve of the 18 lookout stations planned for eventual construction were completed during the past year."
One new station constructed on the Harney forest is located at Parker Mountain. (The Weekly Pioneer-Times)
July 17, 1943: "The Parker Peak forest ranger lookout station, directly above Minnekahta, was completed July 10, according to announcement by N.E. Hibbard, district forest ranger.
Doreen Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Miller of Minnekahta, who has been placed in charge of the station has the distinction of being the only girl lookout in either the Black Hills or Harney National forests." (Lead Daily Call)
July 20, 1943: "The only girl forest fire lookout in the Black Hills this year is Miss Doreen Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Miller, Minnekahta.
Furthermore, she has the distinction of being the first lookout on Parker peak, directly above Minnekahta.
The lookout station was finished this month, District Forest Ranger N. E. Hibbard reports." (Rapid City Journal)
March 9, 1961: "Withdrawal from appropriation, except under mineral leasing laws, has been ordered on 550.69 acres scattered through the Black Hills National Forest.
Most of the land is in tracts of 10 to 40 acres used for fire lookouts." Included in the order: Parker Peak lookout. (Rapid City Journal)
