May 11, 1950: "The group that attended the Senior Girl Scout planning board meeting in Roswell last Saturday went to Ruidoso to complete the weekend there at Anna Cook's cabin.
While having fun hiking, they climbed the Ruidoso lookout tower and signed the guest register. They were told that fires are a constant worry now because of the extra dryness and that each tower has a man on 24-hour duty seven days a week. For extra precaution they check with each other every 30 to 60 minutes.
That should make all the Clovis folks who have cabins there feel a bit less worried about their property during the present siege of forest fires." (Clovis News-Journal)
