LAKE PEAK
New Mexico - Santa Fe County - Santa Fe National Forest - 18N-11E-10
September 16, 1916: "The United States Forest Service has started work on a new home for the 'lookout' at the head of Santa Fe canyon, at Lake Peak. This home will be a substantial log cabin with a stone and masonry base. It will have a steep roof, as protection against heavy snows. Farther up at the actual head of the canyon, a shelter for the lookout is being erected. There, protected from the chill blasts generated at an elevation of 12,500 feet, he may survey the surrounding country in the interest of fire prevention. The service telephone will be placed in this shelter.
The assignment of a lookout for this place has not been made yet, the rains obviating the necessity of a lookout recently." (The Santa Fe New Mexican)
