September 11, 1915: "The fire lookout stationed at the Hopi Tower, Grand Canyon, reports the following number of people as registering at the tower during the past season: April, 78; May, 405; June, 795; July. 1,117; August, 1,133; total, 3,528. This, of course, represents only a small minority of the total visitors at the Canyon and only about 80 per cent of those visiting the tower." (The Evening Herald)
April 19, 1917: "Mrs. Christensen's brother Robert Shepherd, formerly of the University of New Mexico, came in on No. 12, Sunday, and is spending a few days visiting at Camp Clover, awaiting the time when he is to go to the Grand Canyon to be look-out at the Hopi Tower." (Williams News)
May 24, 1917: "Mr. Robert Shepherd, Hopi tower look-out, came in from Grand Canyon, Saturday to get his horse and started for Grand Canyon, horseback, Sunday." (Williams News)
